How Can itchiness And Redness On The Scalp Be Treated?

My scalp gets real itchy as does other parts of my body such as the lower back and generally all over but most intensely on the head/scalp area and back where I have been taking a higher strength antihistamine to help control for over a year now. If I miss taking the antihistamine the scalp mostly and lower back starts to get itchy and I then realize that I have forgotten to take the antihistamine. As far as scratching the itchy area, specifically the lower back, my fingernails will leave a line which looks inflamed from the scratching obviously which is typical I know if you scratch your skin but it appears to inflame more easily/quickly in my opinion. The redness and inflammation does go away with time as I don t scratch and the area is no longer itchy. A clinic doctor thinks I have sebhoric dermatitis but I know that this is not what I have. Can you please provide me with your thoughts, diagnosis and any recommendations. Thanks, Mike

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

It could be a fungal infection.

As a first line management, you can apply Clotrimazole lotion for symptomatic relief.

It symptoms persist, better to consult a dermatologist and get evaluated.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain,
